Populus tremuloides

Aspens reproduce through root sprouts, forming large colonies of genetically identical trees. The Pando colony in Utah is one of the oldest and largest living organisms on Earth.

The greenish-white bark of the Aspen contains chlorophyll, allowing it to photosynthesize even when leaves are not present.

There are estimated to be over 60,000 species of trees worldwide.

This number comes from the most comprehensive database of tree species, compiled by the GlobalTreeSearch, which is an initiative by Botanic Gardens Conservation International (BGCI).
